Co-opted Councillor Vacancy

Co-opted Councillors have the same rights and responsibilities as those Councillors who obtain office through election. The position of Town Councillor does not attract any remuneration, though some allowances are paid. The basic allowance to which all Councillors are entitled is £150 a year. Councillors are expected to attend the regular meetings of the Council and also to serve on a number of committees. All meetings are normally held on a monthly cycle and are held in the evenings usually starting at 7pm. The role is varied and enables local people to use their skills and experience to enhance the work undertaken by the Council for the benefit of the community.

The Council wishes to invite interested and eligible people to submit their application for the role of Councillor by way of a letter and completion of a form to capture contact details. The letter should outline the following:

  • the contribution you believe you could make to the work of the Council;
  • the personal qualities that you would bring to the role;
  • your availability for attending meetings.
