Sudden death of former Councillor Sam Dodd
Abergavenny Town Councillors and staff are deeply sorry to hear about the death of Sam Dodd. Sam followed in her father’s footsteps and was a valued Town Councillor for 11 years until her resignation in October 2019. At the time that Sam became a Town Councillor, she was one of the youngest Town Councillors to serve her community on the Town Council. Sam also held the office of Mayor for the year 2012-2013 and was one of the youngest Mayors that Abergavenny has had. During her time as Mayor she raised funds for St Anne’s Hospice and other local charities.
Sam was a great supporter of the twinning arrangements that Abergavenny has with Beaupreau and Ostringen and actively assisted with the organisation of twinning visits and represented the Council at these visits. She was also the Council representative at Abergavenny & District Tourism Association meetings and A4B (Acting4theBorough) meetings. Sam was instrumental in setting up Keep Abergavenny Tidy along with fellow Town Councillor Martin Hickman.
Mayor of Abergavenny Tony Konieczny added “I would like to offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to Sam’s family at this sad time. Sam was a hard-working Town Councillor and represented the Council on many occasions particularly during her time as Mayor. Holding the office of Mayor is an honour but also a significant time commitment and Sam, together with her Mum Margaret as Consort, embraced the role with enthusiasm and pride. I’m sure many in Abergavenny will have fond memories of Sam during her time as Mayor and Councillor or from having met her through school, Scouting, work or other.”
