Remembrance Sunday 2020
The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Sunday will be different this year. From Saturday October 24th you will be able to buy poppies at supermarkets, banks and from many of the shops in the town centre, but there will not be any door to door sales. You can also download poppy posters to display in your window from the RBL website www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/poppy-appeal
Usually in Abergavenny, Remembrance Sunday is marked by a sizeable parade followed by a service at the War Memorial with thousands of spectators. This cannot happen this year. On Remembrance Sunday a short service will take place and wreaths will be laid by many of the organisations that usually lay wreaths including the Mayor of Abergavenny Councillor Tony Konieczny and Royal British Legion Abergavenny Branch.
We do recognise that these restrictions are difficult for all of us. We will be live streaming the ceremony so if you have the technology you will still be able to pay your respects from the safety of your own home. The ceremony will be streamed on the Abergavenny Town Council Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AbergavennyTC) We must stress again, that we cannot have crowds gathering at the War Memorial so please do not attend in person.
