Tribute to Honorary Burgess and Former Mayor Alan Breeze

Tribute to Honorary Burgess and Former Mayor Alan Breeze

Alan was Mayor of Abergavenny on three occasions, 1980-81, 1985-86 and 2002-2003 with his wife Thelma as Mayoress. Holding the office of Mayor is an honour but also a significant time commitment so undertaking this role three times is exceptional, and an achievement held by very few Town Councillors. In his capacity as Mayor, Alan represented the town locally but also internationally when visiting the twin towns of Ostringen in Germany and Beaupreau in France. Alan was an advocate for the twinning movement and was heavily involved in developing the excellent relations that Abergavenny still has with Ostringen and Beaupreau.

In recognition of Alan’s dedication to the town of Abergavenny, Alan was made an Honorary Burgess in 2008 and in this role continued to be involved in the civic life of the town.

Mayor of Abergavenny Councillor Tony Konieczny added “I would like to offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to Alan’s family at this sad time. I had the pleasure of chatting to Alan at many civic occasions; Alan was a generous man always willing to offer advice and support to fellow Councillors and Mayors and his views were always welcome.”
