On Saturday, 23rd August, Abergavenny came together to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day, standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and our Ukrainian neighbours here in the town.
The event included speeches, music, and an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine. Thanks to the generosity of all who attended, an incredible £1,278 was raised. These funds will be used to purchase much-needed supplies, including thermals, and will support transport already arranged to deliver items directly to Ukraine.
Helen Buhaenko, representing the local Ukrainian community, expressed her gratitude:
“Thank you so much to everyone who supported this celebration, and to Mayor Philip Bowyer for his kind words. The warmth and generosity shown in Abergavenny mean a great deal. Every penny raised will go directly towards essential items for those in need.”
The day was a reminder of the strength of Abergavenny’s community spirit and our ongoing commitment to supporting those affected by the conflict.
