Mayor Visits Borough Band Junior Rehearsals Ahead of Welsh Championships

On Tuesday 3rd March, the Mayor of Abergavenny, Cllr Philip Bowyer, visited the Borough Band rehearsal as the group prepared for the upcoming Welsh Regional Brass Band Championships.

During the visit, the Mayor had the opportunity to listen to the Juniors section rehearsing and meet some of the talented young musicians involved. He was particularly impressed by the standard of the performances by both groups and the way the musicians brought the music to life.

Cllr Philip Bowyer said he was “stunned by the way the band was able to paint a picture with music,” praising the dedication and enthusiasm shown by the players during their preparations for the competition weekend.

The Borough Band continues to play an important role in Abergavenny’s musical and community life, providing opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in brass banding. The junior band welcomes members aged 8 to 80, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for anyone interested in learning or developing their musical skills.

The band is particularly keen to encourage more young people to get involved and experience the enjoyment and sense of community that comes with playing together.

As is tradition with any performers,  Abergavenny Town Council sends “break a leg” wishes to the Borough Band as they head to the Welsh Regional Brass Band Championships in Swansea and congratulates them on the dedication and talent shown by their members.
