Abergavenny Town Council is calling on the community to support the restoration of one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks the historic Clock Tower at the Market Hall.
Standing proudly at the heart of the town since the late 19th century, the Market Hall and Town Hall complex was built between 1869 and 1871 and designed in a striking Early French Gothic style. The clock tower, with its distinctive copper roof and historic clock face, has long been a symbol of Abergavenny’s heritage and identity.
Over time, however, the tower has begun to show signs of wear, and essential restoration work is now needed to preserve it for future generations.
A Community Effort
To help fund the restoration, Abergavenny Town Council has launched a crowdfunding campaign, inviting residents, businesses and visitors to play a part in protecting this important piece of the town’s history.
The project will focus on restoring key elements of the tower, ensuring it remains a safe, functional and visually striking feature of the town centre.
This is more than just a restoration project it’s an opportunity for the community to come together and invest in the future of Abergavenny while celebrating its past.
Why It Matters
The Clock Tower is more than a building feature it is a central landmark, a meeting point, and a symbol of civic pride. For generations, it has overlooked the Market Hall, the Borough Theatre, and the daily life of the town.
By supporting this project, you will be helping to:
- Preserve an important part of Abergavenny’s heritage
- Maintain a key feature of the town centre
- Ensure the building continues to serve the community for years to come
