Abergavenny Town Council is pleased to announce that Councillor Bryony Nicholson has been installed as Mayor of Abergavenny for the 2026/27 civic year. Councillor Gareth Wilde was also appointed Deputy Mayor and will support the Mayor throughout her year of office.
Speaking following her installation, Mayor Nicholson said: “I am delighted to have been chosen to be the Mayor for the next year by Abergavenny Town Council, and honoured that my colleagues have put their trust in me to hold this position. As the youngest woman to be Mayor in Abergavenny’s history, the 9th woman to be mayor of our town, and holding this position with a full time job, representation really matters to me.”
During her year as Mayor, Councillor Nicholson will champion a number of local causes and organisations, including Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary, Dance Blast, and fundraising efforts supporting the Ukrainian community through Maryna Korolova at Squeezing, helping provide essential medical and health supplies to Ukrainian forces.
Mayor Nicholson added: “I’m excited over the next year to meet and support more of Abergavenny’s community groups and organisations who are doing brilliant work to connect local people to culture, sport, education, art, community and more.”
The Town Council looks forward to supporting Mayor Nicholson and Deputy Mayor Wilde over the coming year as they represent Abergavenny at civic and community events across the region.
