Abergavenny Town Council is delighted to announce that the town has officially entered the competition to become the UK Town of Culture 2028, joining communities from across the country in celebrating the places that make the UK unique.

As part of the entry, the Town Council has submitted a digital postcard to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), showcasing Abergavenny’s rich heritage, vibrant cultural scene and strong sense of community, celebrating Culture in our Landscape.

The postcard will feature on the official UK Town of Culture Digital Map, allowing people from across the UK to explore Abergavenny’s submission alongside entries from other towns taking part in the inaugural competition.

The Town Council is also pleased to announce that National Museums Liverpool has agreed to accession every submitted postcard into its collection. This recognises the significance of the inaugural UK Town of Culture competition and will preserve each town’s contribution as part of a permanent national collection. Further details on this exciting legacy project will be shared in due course.

The Town Council encourages residents, businesses, community groups, and visitors to follow the journey as the competition progresses and to join the nationwide celebration by following the campaign online using #UKTownofCulture.
