| Declarations of Interest Cllr Konieczny declared an interest in agenda item 5 as he is a member of Abergavenny Civic Society who are applying for funding. |
| Presentation from Hetta Johnson of the Abergavenny Big Fat Circus Day Hetta Johnson provided Councillors with details of the event she is organising on Sunday 21st July in Bailey Park from 11am to 6pm. Hetta is organising the event as a individual and has booked a circus which will perform 4 shows and these shows are ticketed at £8 a ticket. https://bigfatcircusday.co.uk/ Surrounding the circus will be stalls and workshops creating a festival atmosphere. There will be a nominal entrance fee and businesses will only be charged £20 per stall. Schools have been contacted to design a poster and have a stall. Hetta understands that as an individual she would not meet the criteria for financial support from the Council, however she asked if Councillors would be able to offer support by putting her in touch with different organisations who may be able to help with activities such as stewarding, ticketing etc and promoting the event. Hetta was asked to forward a list of the organisations that she has on board and Councillors will then make suggestions. It was suggested that a specific list of requirements is sent so that Councils can suggest suitable organisations to match the tasks. Hetta was also asked to send a pdf of the poster so this can be circulated. The Mayor thanked Hetta for her presentation. |
| Provision of allotments in Abergavenny The Town Clerk reported that she has been unable to secure an update from MCC Estates and therefore this item is to be deferred. Cllr Konieczny reminded Councillors that there’s an action in the action plan for piloting an Adopt a Garden scheme following his visit to a scheme in Colwyn Bay. It was agreed that more research needs to be undertaken to find out where successful schemes are operating. |
| Abergavenny in Bloom budget and additional cost of Town Centre Planters Councillors discussed the report and recommended that the following community organisations are awarded funding to support the Abergavenny in Bloom initiative: FOALS £100 Friends of Castle Meadows £100 Civic Society £400 It is also recommended that future funding requests by community organisations for Abergavenny in Bloom funding are considered by the Town Clerk in conjunction with the Lead and Deputy of the Abergavenny in Bloom Committee (Cllrs Konieczny & Jones) It is also recommended that a contribution of £1200 is offered to MCC to offset against the increase cost of the rust coloured town centre planters. |
| To consider a report on the Summer Youth Activities Councillors discussed a proposal from MCC Youth Service for the programme of summer activities. There was discussion on how to target families most in need and living in Abergavenny. The Town Clerk was requested to discuss this with MCC Youth Service. If this initiative is successful, there should be discussions with other Town Councils across Monmouthshire to consider a county wide programme. It is recommended that: The trips are priced as follows: Gilwern OEC Day £5 pp Swansea swimming trip free Gilwern OEC £15pp (NB on further discussion with MCC youth service, they have advised against a free trip and a charge of £3pp has been agreed) And that in principle any balance remaining can be used by the Youth Service to provide activities during future school holidays subject to a proposal being received and agreed. |
| To consider a report on future provision of dog waste bins Councillors considered a report setting out requests for dog bins on 2 new sites and an additional one at an existing site. The Town Clerk also reported that there was a need for awareness raising as some dog owners were unaware that dog waste can be put in the general household waste and in litter bins. It was recommended that: The request for a bin at the Cricket Club and on the Pen y fal estate are approved but the situation at Holywell Crescent is monitored and that a request for a litter bin is made to MCC for this location. Following this decision, Council agrees the position that there will be no further bins until the discussions with MCC conclude. That stickers are printed and placed on all dog bins informing dog owners where they can dispose of dog waste and that if the bin is full to take the waste home. |
| Corporate Branding Proposals Cllr Konieczny asked for Councillors views on purchasing the following branded items: Lanyards with ID cardBusiness Cards Hi-viz for Events Polo Shirts to wear when attending events/manning Town Council stalls etc All agreed that the Town Clerk should price up this items and prepare a report for Council |
