Abergavenny is celebrating another outstanding year of success, with Abergavenny in Bloom achieving a prestigious Gold Award and being named the overall winner in the Towns Category for the third consecutive year.
The fantastic achievement reflects the continued hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of local volunteers, schools, businesses, community organisations and residents who come together to make Abergavenny a greener, brighter and more welcoming town.
Alongside the town’s overall success, a number of local individuals and organisations received well-deserved recognition for their contributions.
Celebrating Success Across Our Community
The Angel Hotel was awarded Gold in the Hotels Category, recognising its contribution to the town’s floral displays and welcoming environment.
Our Lady and St Michael’s Primary School achieved Level Two in the RHS Schools Category, demonstrating the school’s commitment to encouraging young people to get involved in gardening and growing.
There was also a particularly special achievement for pupil Thomas Nethercott, who received the Jim Goodwin Young Person Award. This marks the first time the award has been won by a young person from Abergavenny and is a wonderful recognition of his efforts.
Another highlight was the recognition of Jim Quinn from Growing Space at Mardy Park, who received a Community Champion Award. With only seven of these awards presented across the whole of Wales, this is an exceptional achievement and a fitting acknowledgement of his contribution to the local community.
Abergavenny Leads the Way in It’s Your Neighbourhood
Abergavenny also achieved remarkable success in the It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative, recording an impressive 24 entries, more than anywhere else in Wales.
Of these, eight achieved Level 5 – Outstanding, the highest level of recognition within the initiative.
These results demonstrate the strength of community involvement across Abergavenny, with local groups and volunteers taking pride in improving and caring for their neighbourhoods and green spaces.

Abergavenny Town Council would like to extend its warmest congratulations to all the award winners and its sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to another successful year for Abergavenny in Bloom.
From planting and maintaining floral displays to caring for community spaces, encouraging wildlife and inspiring the next generation of gardeners, every contribution plays an important part in making Abergavenny a town to be proud of.
