The Town Hall Clock Tower has been part of daily life in Abergavenny for generations.
It’s the sound of bells chiming through the night.
It’s the place you meet in the town centre.
It’s the first glimpse of home when you spot the green roof in the distance.
It’s part of our identity.
As a Town Council, we’re proud to work beneath such an iconic landmark, one that represents Abergavenny wherever it’s seen. But time has taken its toll.
Standing at the heart of Abergavenny, the Town Hall Clock Tower has quietly witnessed over 150 years of local life. It has marked the rhythm of the town, from busy market days to quiet evenings, from everyday routines to once-in-a-lifetime moments. Generations have grown up with its bells in the background, stories have begun beneath it, and journeys have ended with that familiar view of its green roof.
The tower isn’t just part of our skyline, it’s part of our shared memory.
In 1872, its bells were cast by the same foundry responsible for the bells of Big Ben, connecting Abergavenny to one of the most recognisable timepieces in the world. Since then, it has stood as a constant in a changing town.
Now, it’s our turn to look after it, so it can continue to watch over Abergavenny for the next 150 years.
Everyone in Abergavenny has a story about the clock tower.
Whether it’s:
These moments are what make it truly special.
