Mayor

Bryony Nicholson

Represents Ward on Abergavenny Town Council.

Bryony has lived in the town for several years. She sits on People and Communities committee and is particularly interested in Abergavenny as a place of inclusion and welcome, active travel, local growing spaces and community involvement in local government.

Alongside her commitments at Abergavenny Town Council, Bryony works full time in international aid and development, supporting organisations in the Global South to develop ideas and launch new products. Bryony loves cycling the many hills surrounding Abergavenny and is on a life long reading project to read a book for every country in the world.

Councillor Bryony Nicholson was installed as Mayor of Abergavenny for the 2026/27 civic year, becoming the youngest woman to hold the role in the town’s history and only the ninth female Mayor. Passionate about representation and community connection, Bryony is proud to champion the people and organisations that make Abergavenny such a welcoming, creative and caring town. Throughout her Mayoral year, she will support causes close to her heart, including Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary, Dance Blast and fundraising initiatives for the Ukrainian community, while working closely with local volunteers and community groups to celebrate and strengthen the town’s vibrant cultural life.
