Mayor Visits St John Ambulance Badgers and Cadets During STEM Week

On Monday 2nd March, Abergavenny Town Mayor Philip Bowyer and Principal Officer and Responsible Financial Officer Sandra Rosser visited the St John Ambulance group in Abergavenny to meet the young members of the organisation and learn more about their work in the community.

During the visit, the Badgers proudly demonstrated the activities they are currently undertaking to achieve their science badge, showcasing their enthusiasm for learning and teamwork. Meanwhile, the Cadets spoke about the important fundraising project they are leading to install a defibrillator and critical bleed kit in Bailey Park, an initiative that would provide vital life-saving equipment in one of the town’s busiest community spaces.

The Cadets also explained how volunteers can support the organisation and how young people can complete their Duke of Edinburgh volunteering hours through the programme, helping them develop valuable skills while contributing to their local community.

With the visit taking place during STEM Week, the Mayor reflected on how the programme connects science, health and community service.

Mayor Philip Bowyer said: “It was truly inspiring to meet the Badgers and Cadets and see the incredible work they are doing. Learning practical life-saving skills while working towards science badges shows how STEM can have a real impact on people’s lives. Their commitment to fundraising for equipment that could help save lives in Bailey Park is something the whole town should be proud of.”

Abergavenny Town Council would like to thank the volunteers and young members of St John Ambulance for the warm welcome and for the important work they continue to do supporting the safety and wellbeing of the local community.
