On Saturday 7 March, the Mayor of Abergavenny, Cllr Philip Bowyer, attended an Iftar gathering at Llanfoist Village Hall, joining members of the local community in marking the holy month of Ramadan.
Iftar is the evening meal served at sunset to break the daily fast (sawm) observed by Muslims during Ramadan. It is the second and main meal of the day, following the pre-dawn meal known as suhoor. Beyond its religious significance, Iftar is also an important communal occasion, bringing together family, friends, and members of the wider community to share food and fellowship.
The event at Llanfoist Village Hall welcomed people from across the area and provided an opportunity to celebrate community spirit, understanding, and cultural connection during this important time.
Mayor Cllr Philip Bowyer said:
“It was a great pleasure to be invited to the Iftar at Llanfoist Village Hall. Events such as this are a wonderful opportunity to come together, learn more about one another’s traditions, and celebrate the diversity that strengthens our community. I would like to thank the organisers for their warm welcome and for hosting such a meaningful evening.”
Abergavenny Town Council was delighted to see members of the community gathering together to mark Ramadan and looks forward to continuing to support events that bring people together across the town.
